International School Job Fairs Compared: Search Associates, ISS, Schrole, and Teach Away

Which recruiter is right for which teaching tier — membership fees, fair calendars, school quality, and success rates from real hiring cycles.

International school recruitment still runs disproportionately through a small number of recruiter platforms and their job fairs. Choosing the right one for your career stage matters — the wrong platform wastes a year of applications; the right one puts you in front of 30+ schools in a single weekend.

Search Associates

The gold standard for tier-1 international schools. Membership costs about $225 for two years and requires two professional references. Fairs in Bangkok, London, Boston, Dubai, and Melbourne. Best for licensed teachers with 2+ years' experience targeting IB, IGCSE, or AP schools.

International Schools Services (ISS)

The other major tier-1 recruiter. Similar cost, similar tier of schools, slightly more American-curriculum representation. Fairs in Bangkok, Cambridge (MA), and Atlanta. Membership complements Search Associates rather than duplicating it — many candidates register with both.

Schrole

Newer platform, no membership fee for candidates, strong online recruitment tools rather than in-person fairs. Broader tier range — genuinely used by tier-1 and tier-2 schools. Best for candidates who want an ongoing job board rather than a one-weekend event.

Teach Away

Wider range of tiers, including government English programs and tier-3 schools. Free to join. Best for TEFL teachers, newly licensed teachers, and candidates considering non-traditional routes (JET, EPIK, TAPIF).

What actually happens at a fair

You'll have back-to-back 20-minute interviews across 2–3 days. Preparation is everything: research every school before you arrive, have a printed portfolio, and be ready to answer "why our school specifically" for each interview. Offers are often extended before the fair ends — decisions come fast.

"Register with Search Associates and Schrole simultaneously. The tier-1 fair gets you the interview; the ongoing platform gets you the fallback."

Direct-hire is growing

An increasing share of tier-1 schools — Singapore American School, UWCSEA, several Dubai flagships — now recruit directly through their own portals in September and October, before the fair season begins. Setting alerts on the sites of 15–20 schools you'd genuinely accept an offer from is one of the highest-yield things you can do in October.
